Red Hook Fest 2020: Lineup
We’re happy to announce that Martha Redbone Roots Project will be one of the headlining bands in concert with other progressive musicians and dancers!
Martha Redbone is a Native & African-American vocalist, songwriter, composer, and educator. She is known for her unique gumbo of folk, blues, and gospel from her childhood in Harlan County, Kentucky infused with the eclectic grit of pre-gentrified Brooklyn. Inheriting the powerful vocal range of her gospel-singing African American father and the resilient spirit of her mother’s Cherokee/Shawnee/Choctaw culture, Redbone broadens the boundaries of American Roots music. With songs and storytelling that share her life experience as a Native and Black woman and mother in the new millennium, Redbone gives voice to issues of social justice, bridging traditions from past to present, connecting cultures, while celebrating the human spirit.
Hook Arts Media is proud to spotlight the fantastic relief efforts in Red Hook during the upcoming Red Hook Fest! In this uncertain time, Red Hook’s residents, essential workers, volunteers, and community leaders have risen to the occasion to offer food, supplies, and other invaluable resources and support. We want to share a snapshot of the efforts locals have undertaken to support their neighbors, and what better time than the Red Hook Fest livestream on June 27, 2020?
We are proud to partner with the organizations working to make NYC a safer, more sustainable, and just community. As a result of these partnerships, we can share vital resources, education, and services. Visit our COVID-19 response & resource page to learn more about the resources currently available to our community.
