Creative After School Adventures  (CASA) is a New York City Council Initiative that is administered by NYC Department of Cultural Affairs to support partnerships between cultural organizations and a school partner for afterschool arts programming.

We are grateful to Council Member Carlos Menchaca for designating Hook Arts Media® (formerly Dance Theatre Etcetera) as a recipient of a CASA grant to provide programming at the Good Shepherd Services afterschool Beacon program at PS 15.

Hook Arts Media partnered with Good Shepherd Services from March 22 through June 15th. On March 25th GSS held their kick-off event, in which HAM scheduled MNFST to perform “Hands and Feet,” an interactive tap dance and drumming performance. On May, 11th GSS held their Super Saturday Community Event, where we booked FREE FOCUS, a Hip Hop dance group to perform and host a dance workshop. Classes began on March 22, and grades 1-3 students participated in hip-hop dance classes with Kenneth Herrera on Tuesdays. They learned traditional old-school hip-hop dance as well as modern performance techniques. They learned how to choreograph their own pieces and move collaboratively as an ensemble. 4th and 5th-grade students participated in the drum line class with Cornelio Joseph. Students began instruction on practice pads, learning basic rudiments, beats, and the history of drumline drumming.

The students gave a final performance for friends and family on June 3, 2022.
