Red Hook Fest is Just 10 Days Away

Red Hook, Brooklyn, May 24, 2023: For 30 years, Hook Arts Media has proudly presented the annual Red Hook Fest, a powerful community event that brings Broadway-quality artists to the unique harbor-side neighborhood. With significant local turnout in addition to audience members from throughout the NYC Metro region and tourists from all over the world, this community celebration has grown into one of Brooklyn’s can’t-miss summer events for music and dance lovers in the know.

This year’s events will kick off with an opening ceremony at 5 PM on Friday, June 2nd in the PS15 Schoolyard with a neighborhood dance party, DJ-curated music, free community barbecue, and family-friendly activities. Festivities will continue at 2 pm on Saturday, June 3rd with the mainstage activities in Coffey Park. The mainstage lineup includes performances from the nationally acclaimed Raphael Xavier’s The XCOPE with local performers, including high-flying members of It’s Showtime NYC! We’re also proud to present Omari Wiles’s Les Ballet Afrik with signature “Afrikfusion,” performance championing Black, Latinx, and LGBTQ+ experiences within the ballroom scene. Celebrated local poet, activist, and educator Jive Poetic will both emcee and perform, and dance enthusiasts will be sure to get moving with Los Salseros Ardientes, a new Salsa company with members from hit Broadway shows.

True to its community roots, this year’s festival will return to Coffey Park in the heart of Red Hook. Offering a free shuttle throughout Red Hook, attendees will be able to easily reach festival events from local bus stops in addition to popular locales throughout the neighborhood. The mainstage event will also offer a Community Resource Fair with activities, resources, and trainings from local organizations, mutual aids, and city and state agencies addressing housing, healthcare, childcare, and more!

Over 30 years, Red Hook’s largest annual cultural event has brought neighbors, professional artists, youth performers, and community organizations together as co-creators in a much-beloved summer tradition. Hook Arts Media’s decades-long commitment to arts accessibility has brought incredible artists to a scenic if under-resourced neighborhood with minimal access to transit, banking, and indefensible repair delays for the thousands living in the city’s largest housing project. As the city and its community of companies, organizations, and philanthropists grapple with questions of accessibility and community engagement, Hook Arts Media is proud to celebrate 30 years of arts access with a return to Coffey Park!
